In cryptocurrency world, whitepaper is a document which tells about the crypto coin itself. It tells about the outline of the problem that the coin plans to solve and how.

It also includes the technology structure that will be used in the coin.

Thus, it tells you as investor/trader about the project that you invited to participate into. Details about how your funds are going to be used are also there.

Just like IPO in the stock market includes the details about the company which is bringing the IPO, ICO (Initial Coin Offering) include the whitepaper related to the coin.
